What is Colour Psychology?

Colour psychology examines how colours affect human emotions and behaviour.

Your consumers’ perception of your brand is affected by colour psychology, whether launching a new website, re-branding or creating marketing assets.

Colours are often regarded as evoking emotions based on memories we associate with specific tones throughout our lives. For example, we tend to feel warm and at peace when we look at a yellow sun.

The Role of Colour Psychology in Branding

Your brand will connect with your ideal customers through an effective marketing campaign gaining visibility and loyalty as a result.

When you’re a brand, you should make sure you have a strategy behind the colour choices you make to connect with your target audience and inspire them to connect with your brand.

Colour psychology plays a vital role in building your audience and driving conversions for your brand

The Use of Colour Psychology in Branding

People feel welcomed and warm when surrounded by greenery. Green promotes goodwill, health, and environmental responsibility.

Green is often used to help alleviate anxiety, depression, and nervousness.

An interesting fact is that we tend to see green more than any other colour because it surrounds us in nature.

The colour green is a great choice for brands in the health and wellness industry.

Blue is associated with productivity, trust, peace, and stability. Blue calms anxiety, as opposed to red, which causes urgency.

The colour blue evokes a sense of dependability and loyalty, which is a value that lots of brands want to convey.

For E-commerce websites in the insurance, medicine, and finance industries, blue is a great colour to feature as it is linked to trust and security.

Here at Little Bird, we decided to pick yellow as our main brand colour. We wanted a colour that represented our happy, cheerful and creative business.

We think yellow is a colour that you don't often see associated with brands so it stands out from the crowd and grabs your attention while stimulating your mind.

The colour yellow shows others that we are a bold, optimistic and confident brand.

Pink is a very sweet and feminine colour often associated with floral and girly brands. It's also a colour that is thought to have a calming effect.

There's so many shades of pink from hot pink to baby pink, we can see why it's a favourite of many!

Orange is a great colour for a fun and friendly brand.

The colour evokes energy and happiness and is playful.

Orange is often used to draw attention, such as in traffic signs and advertising too!

The colour purple is often associated with royalty, luxury, power and ambition.

Purple also represents wealth, creativity, wisdom, mystery and spiritually.

If purple is your brand colour, it shows that you are an independent and luxurious brand while at the same time you can give off a mysterious vibe.

The colour red stimulates feelings of hunger, love, and fun because it’s known to evoke feelings of urgency and excitement.

Red is a bold colour that will set you apart from your competition. It's a passionate colour that shows that you aren't afraid to make a bold statement.

Red also has more emotional associations than any other colour!

Your website, branding, and marketing colours may have more impact than you realise.

As a business owner, you know what your website should say and how you want people to interact with it. You may want to use specific colours, such as greens and blues, when your goal is to increase trust and loyalty. Do keep in mind, however, that some colours won’t have the same effect on everyone.
